Temur Gugushvili
Regional and Local Development Specialist
Associate Professor, PhD in Sociology
Temur Gugushvili is a sociologist whose work sits at the intersection of participatory planning, rural and mountain development, and governance. He holds a PhD in Sociology and brings over a decade of academic and applied research experience, with a focus on community engagement, sustainable development, and digital methods in the social sciences.
At CIG, which he joined in 2018, Temur leads research in the social domain and has been instrumental in advancing and institutionalizing participatory and stakeholder engagement approaches to urban planning, a contribution that has shaped both the organization's practice and the broader field in Georgia.
Temur has collaborated with a range of international institutions, including FAO, UNDP, and UN Women, as well as academic partners such as the University of Bern's Centre for Development and Environment and the University of Innsbruck. His research spans Georgia and the wider South Caucasus region, and his findings have been presented at conferences across Europe, Asia, and Africa.
